Workshop on experience and practice of trade remedies in the context of implementing the RCEP Agreement in Ho Chi Minh City
On October 10, 2024, the Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Center for International Integration Support organized a workshop on trade remedies experiences and practices in the context of implementing the RCEP Agreement. The workshop was attended by representatives from the Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam and many representatives of businesses in the city.
The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is an important turning point in the process of global economic integration, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. RCEP has made an important contribution to promoting trade activities between Vietnam and its partners in the region, but it has also brought certain disadvantages such as creating great competitive pressure in the domestic market, exacerbating the trade deficit, when the partners with which Vietnam already has the largest trade deficit are all in the RCEP region. Although RCEP aims to reduce trade barriers and create a free trade area, member countries still have the right to apply trade remedies measures to protect domestic production from adverse impacts of unfair competition. Therefore, improving understanding of trade remedies measures is necessary and inevitable.

The content of the Workshop provided relevant information on the market situation, opportunities and challenges to promote the export of potential products to the RCEP market, new points on the Rules of Origin in the RCEP Agreement, the situation of investigation, application of trade remedies measures to protect domestic production of imported goods from RCEP members to Vietnam, sharing the situation and experience in responding to trade remedies measures of RCEP market countries with Vietnam.

Through the Workshop, businesses in Ho Chi Minh City have gained a deeper understanding of trade remedies measures and how to apply them effectively, in accordance with international commitments; at the same time, they have taken advantage of incentives from the RCEP Agreement in the context of deep international economic integration, thereby gradually improving the local competitiveness, contributing to promoting the stable development of the city's socio-economy./.
