Workshop “Guidance for Businesses on Overcoming Trade Defense Barriers in the Context of RCEP Agreement Implementation” in Dong Thap
In the context of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Agreement officially coming into effect, Vietnamese businesses have both opportunities to expand their markets and face numerous trade defense barriers from importing countries. To support the business community, the Trade Defense Department – Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with the Department of Industry and Trade of Dong Thap province, organized a workshop on “Guidance for Businesses on Overcoming Trade Defense Barriers in the Context of RCEP Agreement Implementation” on September 5, 2025 in Dong Thap. Attendees included representatives from the Trade Defense Department, various departments and agencies, and representatives from businesses, associations, related organizations, and other interested individuals in the province.
At the workshop, experts focused on analyzing the trade defense regulations in the RCEP Agreement, as well as the Circular guiding the implementation of trade defense measures within this agreement, aiming to help businesses understand the legal basis and application mechanisms in practice. In addition, the workshop provided an updated overview of global and RCEP-regional trade defense trends, particularly the increasing trend and redirection of investigations, and warned key industries at high risk of being subjected to defense measures. Based on this, speakers shared important considerations for businesses to effectively respond to investigations in foreign markets.
Furthermore, the workshop also presented practical experiences from past trade defense cases, drawing useful lessons for the business community. Another noteworthy aspect was the guidance for businesses on utilizing early warning systems for trade defense, enabling them to leverage timely data to forecast risks and build safer, more sustainable export strategies.
The workshop provided much practical information, contributing to raising awareness and improving the response capacity of the business community to trade defense barriers in the era of deep integration. Through access to in-depth knowledge, updates on new trends, and learning from practical experience, Vietnamese businesses will have more effective tools and solutions to protect their legitimate rights, mitigate export risks, and better utilize the market opportunities offered by the RCEP Agreement. This is a crucial foundation for businesses to develop sustainably, increase competitiveness, and assert their position in regional and global markets.
